Snack · 10 min prep · serves 4 Newly added

Ingredients

  • 4 banana , peeled and sliced into 1/4-inch rounds (elakki or robusta variety); ripe
  • 1/2 cup coconut (fresh grated)
  • 3 tbsp jaggery , powdered fine
  • 1/2 cup coconut milk , fresh, thin extract
  • 1/2 tsp cardamom powder , freshly ground green cardamom
  • 1 tsp ghee , melted

Preparation

  1. Place the sliced ripe bananas into a wide ceramic serving bowl.

  2. Sprinkle the powdered jaggery over the bananas; toss gently with a spoon and let sit for 5 minutes so the jaggery draws out the fruit juices.

  3. Add the freshly grated coconut and ground green cardamom powder.

  4. Pour in the fresh thin coconut milk and drizzle the melted ghee over the top.

  5. Fold all ingredients together gently so the banana rounds remain intact.

  6. Serve immediately at room temperature or chill lightly for 15 minutes before offering.

In the tradition

Rasayana (‘nectar’ or ‘rejuvenative elixir’) is a traditional offering prepared during religious pujas and festival feasts at the Udupi Sri Krishna Matha. Combining ripe bananas (bale hannu) with raw coconut meat, fresh coconut milk, cardamom, and pure cow’s ghee, it serves as an instant energy offering honoring the abundant tropical fruits of coastal Karnataka.
