What is satvik?

Satvik (sāttvika) living in the Indian traditions, food, practice and disposition that cultivate clarity and calm, and how this non-profit site presents it.

Satvik (sāttvika in IAST transliteration) comes from the Sanskrit word sattva, a quality of clarity, balance and goodness that the Indian traditions describe as one of the three guṇas (qualities of nature), alongside rajas (restlessness, drive) and tamas (dullness, inertia). To live satvik is to cultivate sattva in what you eat, what you do with your body, what you allow into your mind, and how you act in the world.

The classical sources describe this in many places: the Bhagavad Gita devotes a whole chapter to how the guṇas colour food, charity, discipline and knowledge; ayurvedic texts explain how food and routine shape the balance of the doshas; the yoga tradition treats posture, breath and meditation as one ascending path. This site gathers that practical wisdom under three pillars, Body, Mind and Soul; with the first module, satvik meals, in active build.

How we present it

  • Source-first. Where traditional knowledge is stated, sources are cited; scripture, classical texts or named modern teachers, and classical sources are kept visibly distinct from modern interpretation.
  • Non-dogmatic. The traditions themselves disagree; we present them respectfully, with their own words, without insisting that any single school has the final say.
  • Sanskrit, readable. Terms are given in IAST transliteration with plain translations, so the vocabulary stays authentic without becoming a barrier.
  • Safety-aware. Ayurveda and yoga are powerful traditions, not substitutes for medical care. Content that touches health carries a disclaimer and advanced practices carry cautions.

What this site is not

Satvik.fyi is a non-profit, volunteer-built project. It carries no advertising, sells nothing through this domain, tracks no one, and collects no personal data. When the shop and community spaces launch they will live on subdomains served by external free services, clearly labelled, never mixed into the reading experience. It is also not a medical, psychological or spiritual advisory service; please read the disclaimer.
