The mantra no one gave you, the breath saying "I am That" all day, unheard, waiting to be noticed.
The Self (as the breath's quiet self-statement) Advaita Vedānta; tantric & haṭha adoption Peace & śānti
The mantra
सोऽहम्
so'ham (saḥ + aham, "that I am")
Meaning
The inhale sounds as 'so', the exhale as 'ham'; together, "I am That", the Upaniṣadic mahāvākya repeated by the body twenty thousand times a day.
In the tradition
The tradition’s quietest joke: you have been repeating the greatest of statements since your first cry, and calling it breathing. So’ham practice is only listening in. Vedānta’s grand declaration and the body’s ordinary rhythm turn out to be the same sentence.
