The mantra
ॐ शान्तिः शान्तिः शान्तिः
oṁ śāntiḥ śāntiḥ śāntiḥ
Meaning
Oṁ, peace, peace, peace. The commentaries hear the threefold repetition as peace in the heavens (weather, fate), peace among living beings (the world), and peace in oneself.
In the tradition
Three words, and an entire theory of where trouble comes from; above, around, and inside. The chant does not distinguish: it asks for calm in all three at once, and then stops, which is itself the lesson.
